Nine Two-Year-Old Fillies Set for $100,000 Juvenile Filly Turf
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, Sunshine Millions Preview Day will continue with the $100,000 Juvenile Filly Turf. Restricted to two-year-old fillies bred in Florida, the one mile turf race has drawn a field of nine.
Magnificent Margo has been tabbed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for trainer Michael Maker. A dark bay daughter of Congrats, she broke her maiden at first asking by a nose at Saratoga. She has struggled against stakes company in her recent starts and has finished fifth and seventh. Since her last race, the Jessamine (G3), she has had a bullet workout at Gulfstream Park West. Edgar Prado will be in the irons for the first time and they will break from post position four.
Like a Queen has sharp form since trying the turf
Second choice at 3-1 on the morning line is Like a Queen for trainer Antonio Sano. After two competitive efforts on the dirt against maiden company, she broke the ice in her third career start and her turf debut in July. She was last seen finished second, beaten only a neck, in the Our Dear Peggy Stakes. A chestnut daughter of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Corinthian, Like a Queen is going for her first stakes win and will have Edgard Zayas aboard from post seven.
Herecomeskitty switching to the grass for the first time
Also in the field and a longshot at 15-1 on the morning line is Herecomeskitty, a homebred for owner Gilbert Campbell. Trained by Kathleen O’Connell, the gray daughter of West Acre will be trying the turf for the first time after three average efforts against state-bred stakes company on the main track. She broke her maiden in her career debut in June at Calder. Regular rider Eduardo Nunez has retained the mount and they will break from post six.

Handicapping the 2019 Kentucky Derby

Post positions have been drawn, and the oddsmakers have instilled Omaha Beach as the morning line favorite for the running of the 145th Kentucky Derby. The race goes Saturday, May 4th, with 20 runners set to battle 1 1/4 miles on the Churchill Downs dirt track, chasing a purse of $3 million and the first leg of the US Triple Crown.
