Bet on the Chicago Handicap

The Chicago Handicap is a Grade 3 race for fillies and mares three years old and upward held in June at Arlington Park. Currently offered for a purse of $150,000, the seven furlong event on the main track provides a popular option for talented sprinters and milers to meet at a middle distance on a synthetic racing surface. With Polytrack wagering continuing to draw large fields and offering a fair racing surface for turf specialists and dirt runners, the Chicago Cap is popular among bettors.

The convenience and ease are obvious advantages to wagering online, but with so many options available, selecting a reliable racebook becomes imperative. Moreover, the best online racebooks offer competitive rebate and bonus programs to ensure that more of your wagering dollars remain where they belong: in your pocket.

Chicago Handicap Betting Odds

Tabbed to return June 25, 2016 after being cancelled in 2015 due to budget cuts, the Arlington Handicap has seen its share of generous prices. 2014 winner My Option was dismissed at generous odds of 5/1 despite already owning a graded stakes victory over the Arlington Park Polytrack. My Option paid 13.20 to win and capped a $2 exacta that returned over $75 with Flower Spell checking in second. These kinds of tidy profits become even more rewarding when using a quality online racebook such as Bovada which offers a 3% win or lose rebate on all straight wagers and 5% back on all exotic bets.

2016 Chicago Handicap Contenders

With a diverse and talented cast lined up for the 2016 renewal of the Chicago Handicap June 25 at Arlington Park, the seven furlong tilt promises to be a great betting race. The field of ten includes a number of viable win candidates including Kathballu, an intriguing last-out allowance winner May 22 at Churchill Downs. Kathballu had kept top company with modest results before returning to the allowance ranks to find her winning form. With just 3 wins in 15 career starts, this four year-old filly is the kind of play many bettors will side against, but certainly has the ability to get the best of this group while making her first start on a synthetic surface she is bred to handle. With plenty of price plays available, the 2016 Chicago Handicap is an appealing race from an exotics standpoint with the trifecta and superfecta wagers capable of producing large payouts.

Did you know?

The Chicago Handicap has certainly drawn its share of notable and successful runners despite its brief existence. The original running of the race was won by Canadian Champion Older Female Saoirse and multiple graded stakes winner Happy Ticket found the winner’s circle in 2005 as the race continued to draw top-quality fillies from around the country. In 2009 and 2010, Informed Decision became the only two-time winner of the Chicago Handicap. Informed Decision most notably won the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint and a handful of other major stakes victories en route to being named that year’s American Champion Filly and Mare Sprinter.
