Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf Long on Betting Value
The Grade 3 $100,000 Commonwealth Turf might play second-fiddle to the Grade 1 Clark Handicap immediately following the race, but bettors may find former race a more enticing wagering event.
Saham is the 4/1 morning line favorite in the field of 13, but will have his work cut out for him in the mile and a sixteenth race over the Matt Winn Turf Course. The Brendan Walsh trainee will have to overcome a wide draw while breaking from post 12. Joe Rocco will be aboard the three-time winner, who has recorded five consecutive identical Beyer Speed Figures of 88. Saham won the Grade 3 Jefferson Cup in September at Churchill and has finished first or second in four of his last five.
One Go All Go with controlling speed
One Go All Go (6/1) is cutting back to a mile and sixteenth after winning the Grade 2 Commonwealth Derby and finishing fourth in the Bryan Station Stakes in a pair of races at the mile and one eighth distance. The speedy son of Fairbanks could dictate terms to the rest of the field or find himself in an ideal stalking position under Julien Leparoux. One Go All Go has recorded Beyer Speed Figures of 92,93 and 89 in three starts this year with the latter figure coming over yielding turf.
Quality Bird sharp on grass
Quality Bird (5/1) is an interesting item for trainer Ian Wilkes after waking up when sent to the turf two starts ago. The son of Quality Road recorded back to back 88 Beyers while finishing third in the Centaur Stakes at Indiana Downs and winning the an allowance event at Keeneland. With projected improvement still a plausible handicapping theory, Quality Bird should be rolling late again.
